The acting company won four awards, including Outstanding Production (Junior Division), plus an additional six nominations for its rendition of the P.L. Travers classic. Jack Finegan won Outstanding Lead Actor for his portrayal of Bert, while Violet Massie-Vereker and Maggie Solimine earned Outstanding Lead Actress (Junior Division) honors as Mary Poppins.
“We are so excited and honored to receive these awards,” SOOP Artistic Director Paul Romanello said in a statement. “Of course, we never do any of this for the prizes, but it does validate the hard work, passion and commitment displayed by all involved. I couldn't be more proud of our kids and staff.”
SOOP -- or Seat of Our Pants -- was founded in 1998 and has since grown from 10 kids to more than 250 young thespians of all ages. The company performs two Main Stage productions a year and will follow up “Mary Poppins” this fall with its rendition of “Hairspray.”
They also produce a holiday performance, six workshop style classes (two per trimester, grades K-2 and 3-6, culminating in a performance for family and friends), voice and piano lessons, college audition coaching and public speaking for both kids and adults.
Programs are tuition-based, but scholarships are available. Visit sooptheatre.org for more information or to make an appointment to audition.
